Resumo: dc.description.abstractThe production system of poultry passed into an industrialized process with increase in scale. This process, the creation of contained generates waste that cause environmental problems and require different management from that used previously by indiscriminate use, "in natura", which can generate a high environmental impact. The poultry litter contains droppings and feathers of the birds, the feed wasted and the moisture absorbent material used on the floors of poultry houses, thus constituting, a residue with a high concentration of nutrients that can impact the soil due to the wide availability of manure. Within this context it is necessary a new provision for the waste produced, called biomass, and reuse. The present work in order to quantify the methane production of poultry litter from poultry condominium community of Rio Claro in Campo Mourao through reactors bench and estimate the energy potential of biomass, and diagnose the use and destiny of poultry litter in the region. The work is characterized as supported by quantitative data obtained by laboratory experiment, statistical calculations, site visits and literature searches. The results of this study showed that methane production was higher in reactors with the highest concentration of poultry litter, producing an average of 0.17 m³ methane per gram of biomass. The total biomass produced in the condo reaches 86.9 tons and can produce about 321 852 m³ of biogas, converted to electricity, would generate approximately 402 315 kW / year. Thus it can be concluded that the use of poultry litter biomass is a viable alternative for the production of biogas, able to replace traditional fuels and electric energy consumed in poultry poultry properties condominium Rio Claro community.pt_BR
