Resumo: dc.description.abstractThe rising prices of petroleum products, dependence on an non-renewable rawmaterials and the various environmental impacts caused by industry have motivated researchers to look for alternative energy and production of goods that do not rely on fossil raw materials. The production of biolubricants from renewable raw materials is an example of such studies. One of the methods for producing them is epoxidation followed by the transesterification of soybean oil refined to improve the characteristics of lubricating oil. Transesterification was carried out using a molar ratio of oil/methanol 1:6 and 0.7% catalyst. Different epoxides were produced using commercial 15% peracetic acid and peracetic acid solutions produced in the laboratory. Regarding the epoxides made with these solutions, we observed that peracetic acid solutions concentrated (14.4%) reduced more the iodine values than dilute solutions (8.7%) indicating a further reduction of unsaturations, but the products epoxidised had a lower oxirane oxygen. Therefore, more concentrated solutions caused hydrolysis of the epoxide initially formed. Regarding the epoxidation was possible to verify its efficiency, since the epoxidized product showed low iodine value (10.2 mg I2-g-1) and reduced kinematic viscosity at 40 ° C (8.9 mm2.s-1). All products were characterized by physical-chemical analysis and by NMR spectra of 1H and 13C and it can be concluded that the presented methodology allows the obtention of potential biodegradable lubricants.pt_BR
