Descrição: dc.descriptionThis study deals with a theorlcal question , that Is, the mission of the Catholic Church In Brazil. it Intends to analyse an annual program carried on In the field of Social Communication, called the Brotherhood Campaign (Cam penha da Fraternidade). Such Campalgn,sponsored by The National Conference of the Bishops of Brazil(Conferência Na clonal dos Blspos do Brest 1) has been yeèrly developped throughout the nation, by TV, Radio, Press and other mass media*, since 1964. The study covers the period until 1980. The program is conducted with the help of "promotional material" such as radio spots, TV films, press kads, outdoors, and so on. This material makes up the object of our analysis. The theme of each annual program Is treated in a suitable manner, in order to verify the relationship between the Church's Ideas about* the national reality and what Is proposed to the population by the State. The Church and the State have., positions which are sometimes convergent and sometimes divergent. And these 1 divergences turn but Into conflicts thet are reflected In the program. Similarly; there is always a possibility of clash among members of the ecleslastlc hierarchy, as far as the pastoral styles are al so.reflected In the Campaign. The study ts also a pioneer effort, as the historic recovery of the Brotherhood Campaign, from its origins to the present days, had not»as far as we know,been .5. yet taken as an object of study. So, this work endeavors to help filling up the lack of such Information.-
