Resumo: dc.description.abstractThis work helps on learning of the ancient art of palmistry, or hand reading, by a redesign of a book on this subject, defends the importance os the image to text comprehention, exposing different points of view that sugest that the aliance between image and text contribute to the assimilation and retention of information, helps in the illitation process and in learning, contextualizes the reader on sacred geometry, school of thought that believes that nature and its implicit geometry is actually demonstrations of a divine being existent in the universe ans uses its symbols and geometric patterns as a base for the creations of illustrations, being these the matters addressed in the development of a new graphic design project for the book “Como ler a sorte pelas mãos” (Fortune - telling by palmistry, in its original title) by Rodney Davies, based on the three reserch lines described above and in graphic design canons, of authors like Bringhurst and Van der Graaf. This project bring as a result a redesign proposal for the book, aiming for better comprehension of the text and as a consequence, a more correct application of the knowledge acquired with its reading, illustrations developed manually with acrylic paint and digital line art, as well as the layout of the book, achieving the specific objectives of the project, of identifying the problems of the original book, trying to solve them trough illustrations, infographics or diagrams and generating the new graphic design layout. The methodology uses practices and guidelines of editorial graphic design, aas such as those from “The New Typhography”, by Jan Tschichold, “Elements of typographic style”, by Robert Bringhurst and Andrew Haslam’s “Book Design”. At the end what was developed was a new graphic design Project that includes chapter opening illustrations, a new grid, navigation notes that help with the reading and finishing with hot stamping and traditional binding, aiming for a classic style on the general look of the book. Although user tests weren’t made for measuring the effectiveness of the Project, we believe that with this redesign, the text comprehention is easier, better and that the reader might learn palmistry with less obstacles ahead of they.pt_BR
