A percepção ambiental dos alunos de uma escola em Barueri - SP, sobre a criação de aves silvestres

Abstract

Illegal breeding wild birds as a major threat to Brazilian resulting avifauna of a historical cultural practice, which is benefited by the ignorance of a people about the damage caused to them and the environmental. Thus, the present study looked at the occurrence of the habit within the family of the students of a school of Barueri, SP, and environmental awareness that present regarding their ecological importance, and as such practice. The survey was conducted with 135 students from 1st to 3rd year of high school, of both sexes, in October 2014, with the completion of a questionnaire that addressed the occurrence of keeping wild birds in captivity and the level of environmental awareness of the students. The study also sought to identify the main motivating factors and to promote this practice in order to provide support to actions and environmental education projects for its conservation attitudes. Based on students responses it was found that the practice of keeping birds in captivity is still occurring even there creating many wild birds. As environmental awareness of students, no statistical correlation was observed regarding attitudes, facing different ages and sex of the same. The results showed that many students have a good level of knowledge about the harm caused by the practice of illegal breeding of wild birds, but many of them have found attitudes contrary to knowledge they have. This questionable paradox, shows a misrepresentation regarding environmental awareness, reinforces the urgent need for action in environmental education that emphasizes and clarifies the damage caused by this practice.
