Resumo: dc.description.abstractThe theme of this work was to identify and analyze both the eating habits and the nutritional status of school children in the 5th grade of elementary school from two public schools in Tarumã, São Paulo. Given the fact that the schools operate in different periods, being one a part-time school and the other a full-time one, it was also intended to evaluate the eating habits of the students, verifying up to what extent they influence to the classification of the current nutritional status, and to compare the situation of both school periods. For the purpose intended, an assessment to check the nutritional status of the students from both schools, and the application of a questionnaire to check their eating habits were held. After tabulation and study of all these data, it was noted that the full-time students have healthy eating habits, as expected for the food groups of the Food Guide Pyramid; in contrast, the part-time students had inadequate eating habits, having the extra groups highlighted, requiring nutrition education efforts to develop healthier eating habits and nutritional status recovery, ie, some recommendations for the educators to develop theoretical classes articulated with practice, nutrition related topics, knowledge on processed food labels, and physical activity encouragement. Concluding, therefore, that the result was as anticipated and very satisfying.pt_BR
