Resumo: dc.description.abstractThe work entitled "The Importance of Scientific Literacy in the Teaching-Learning Process in Chemistry" took in consideration the changes in the Educational Process since the great transformations that globalization and capitalism imposed to society as well as cognitive and affective characteristics that pass to be increasingly valued in contemporary times. It was also used a theoretical substantiation to prove that the Scientific Literacy favors the formation of citizens is a necessary tool, since scientific knowledge are indispensable for people to exercise their rights in society; It was also found that scientific literacy can be considered as one of the dimensions to strengthen possibilities that benefit a more committed education because advocates the use of scientific language to assist in greater understanding of nature and how it is being transformed, providing an improvement in quality in the everyday life; still leads students to develop into reflective, critical and participatory citizens. This work was developed initially through literature, and later there was data collection through a questionnaire, which was answered by Chemistry teachers the Board of Education of Limeira - SP. On the sequence there was data tabulation, culminating in the construction of graphs of the results obtained, as well in their analyzes, which allowed to understand that there is a lack of teacher knowledge about the true meaning and goals of scientific literacy; Furthermore, they believe that the Scientific Literacy is not very well treated during the teachers training process, so that misinformation hinders the preparation of classes; it is also needed learn how to use methods and strategies that bring the content of classes near to the students reality, as well, learn to guide the application in daily life, in a process that encourages communication between individuals and the notion of citizenship.pt_BR
