Resumo: dc.description.abstractThis monograph starts from some questions that make us wonder how the acquisition of the second language occurs, like: do the students use their mother tongue to produce their second language? If so, what are those strategies? Is there any difference in the acquisition of English among students with regard to gender, age and education level? Accordingly this monograph is to analyze the process of oral acquisition of Brazilian learners in the process of immersion in the basic level of English. In the attempt to answer these questions, based on linguistic, the following authors are cited: Zimmer (2008), Gomes (2009), Major (1996, 2010) and others. The methodology was qualitative, consisting of taped interviews with students and the use of analysis software PRAAT (Boersma e Weenink). The empirical field was chosen taking into account the methodological process of immersion, the heterogenety of: gender, age and level of education. The primary sources brought empirical relevance to the research, which corroborated the possibility of interference of the Portuguese Brazilian language in the acquisition of the English language. Accordingly, this text is structured as follows: first an introduction that presents the problem and justifies the relevance of its study. Secondly, a reflection on the theory, composed of three chapters: syllabic structure, paragoge and the syllable in the interphonology. Next chapter describing the methodology used and finally, the conclusion.pt_BR
