Resumo: dc.description.abstractThe increasing prevalence of overweight and obesity in adolescents has increased in recent decades. For this tendency does not manifest in adulthood is important to detect early anthropometric and body composition changes. For this there are several methods such as Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry (DXA) is considered the gold standard. Another innovative method being studied is the portable ultrasound (US). The objective of this research is to examine whether there is accuracy of the estimation of body composition obtained by US compared with DXA in adolescents of school age in the metropolitan region of Curitiba-PR. The research is classified as descriptive, quantitative and cross-sectional design. Participants were 104 males and inclusion criteria were: attendance data collection to the Term of Consent signed by the head and nod for the participant and have performed evaluation of body composition by DXA method in seven days prior to evaluation. Data of body weight, height, body mass index and subsequently the assessment of body composition was performed by US were collected, collecting measurements of points: Chest, Triceps, subscapular, midaxillary, Suprailíaco, abdomen, thigh, with the percentage fat obtained by ultrasound (% GUS) given by Jackson and Pollock equation, calculated by the equipment software. To analyze the result, descriptive and inferential statistics were applied. There was an association (Pearson and Spearman) and the correlation (t test for dependent samples, the test stations signals Wilcoxon and Bland-Altman). The main results were found to be 12.5% prevalence of overweight by DXA and that most of the values obtained from the US showed a positive bias, demonstrating that this underestimated% BF in evaluations (p<0.001). The values of% and% GUS GDXA had a weak correlation (ρ=0.474), but among overweight individuals, this value was higher (R=0.784) showing a moderate correlation. To correlate measurements of the amount of subcutaneous fat identified by the US with the percentage of body fat measured by DXA segments, we obtained a high and moderate correlation between the points of the thigh with the right leg (ρ = 0.840) and triceps with right upper limb (ρ = 0.700) respectively. But the Subscapular had low correlation (ρ=0.296) points; Axillary East (ρ=0.167); Abdomen (ρ=0.401) and Suprailíaco (ρ=0.480), relative to the trunk. In conclusion, it was found that the US did not estimation accuracy of body composition compared with DXA adolescents evaluatedpt_BR
