Resumo: dc.description.abstractThe pollution caused by the textile industry by launching their effluent containing textile dyes in water bodies is an alarming problem, and thus several techniques have been studied to remedy this problem. This study aims to evaluate the potential for adsorption of Saccharomyces cerevisiae exhausted of the fermentation process of beer production in presence of solution containing the dye reactive black 5. Several assays varying the dye concentration in a range between 100-400 mg L-1and pH in a range of 2-7 were performed. The experiments were conducted in a shaker at 120rpm, with flasks containing 100ml each of solution, the mass of biomass was held constant, with 1 gram for every 100ml of solution. Aliquots of samples were withdrawn at certain time intervals, for subsequent study of the kinetics and adsorption isotherms. The kinetic model that best represented the trials was the pseudo-second order, and the Langmuir isotherm was the best representation in the models evaluated. The optimum condition was the concentration of 100 mg L-1 and pH 2, and there was an absorption of about 98%. This study demonstrated that Saccharomyces cerevisiae is an efficient alternative to act as biosorbent for Reactive Black 5 dye, demonstrating that it is interesting that there is continuity in the study of the adsorptive properties of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, that in the future can be used as an alternative in the treatment of effluents.pt_BR
