Resumo: dc.description.abstractDespite the fact that some important items regarding occupational health prevention are not directly related to labor laws, such may be used in a manner as to guarantee better economic results for organizations. If managers have a good understanding over the subject and invest in the organization’s health through labor health and safety programs, such shall obtain good results on economic variables which are directly impacted by employees’ illnesses caused by unhealthy working environments. However, preventive actions regarding the employee’s health and safety are still not a part of the institutions organizational culture. One of the objectives of the current study is to become a reference for future literature that focus on the management of healthy working environments, once such literature is scarce on the field. The main objective of the current study is to provide the Foz do Iguaçu City Hall a standard for a worker’s health and safety management system in working environments which allow for treating the causes of work accidents, promoting risk reduction or complete eradication, attesting its capacity as a preventive tool which may be incorporated on the occupational health and safety professionals daily routine. The worker’s health and safety management tools described under the present study were safety dialogs, standard operational procedures, safety inspections, training sessions, work permits, investigation and analysis of adverse events and incident notifications. A characteristic of these tools is the non-usage of financial resources for the respective implementation, and such characteristic is of the most importance once it makes the usage of such tools viable from the institution’s economical point of view. Furthermore, these practices only require good will from the worker’s health and safety team, in conjunction with coordinators, supervisors and workers, all supported by the head manager. The cost free aspect of such tools is crucial, mainly for public services and institutions, given that the usage of financial resources slow down or eliminates the worker’s health and safety management process. It is expected that the results presented under the present study are useful for Foz do Iguaçu City Hall and for other interested institutions, mainly public institutions, which may desire to improve or implement a worker’s health and safety management system.pt_BR
