Abstract

The present paper has as it theme, the research into the need to use of maps in Geography classes, because its an important work tool. The maps as a didactic resource are extremely important both to the teacher and the student to analyze and understand the geographical space. It’s important that students know how to interpret the different types of maps, and why people use them to orientate or localize themselves. Also Emphasizes the necessity to learn how to interpret the maps at all different levels of school education, only in this way should be able to understand and not simply copy what is already done. As well as teaching the student how to read, the teacher must be capable to verify possible difficulties presented by the students during the process, because it is common the teaching materials not contain the geographical maps with the content, most of the times its just mentioned in different pages or at the end of the chapter, which complicate the maps comprehension. Make clear the real necessity to have printed or digital maps in class, mainly in the geography class, because the students need to keep in touch with this tool to assimilate the contents in order to solve the doubts that may rise during the explanation, with the possibility to continue the class with the minimum doubts about maps interpretation.
