Resumo: dc.description.abstractIn the so-called public policy cycle, the evaluation of results' phase has been acquiring emphasis in the last decades, to the point that the 90’s was called the “evaluation decade” in Brazil. Nonetheless, while there is a vast academic literature analyzing the theoretical aspects of evaluation and the proliferation of diverse of governmental evaluation systems, there is still a lack of analysis, discussion and systematization of the results of these evaluations. This work aims to analyze IDESP critically, using as a parameter, the practical case of the recent results (years 2010 to 2013) of the schools of Itapetininga. The methodology concentrated in bibliographical and documental research, besides one case study in which 26 Itapetininga schools were evaluated. It was concluded that IDESP is one powerful tool for managers and education professionals, who, in the specific case of Itapetininga, could benefit from a more thorough research of the success achieved by Major Fonseca school in primary education. This work, with focus on one specific city, aims to promote the discussion of this topic and help future research with a larger scope.pt_BR
