Resumo: dc.description.abstractThe energy performance of a building is influenced by 30% by insulation of the architectural envelope, due to this reason the use of appropriate architectural standards, product specification and energy efficient materials and suitability criteria of rational designs allow significant reductions in energy consumption. This study aims to develop a database of non- convencional thermal insulating materials and to make this tool, which compares its technical and environmental characteristics, available to professionals in the field of construction; so they can improve their knowledge on non-convencional thermal insulating materials. For the elaboration of the database, materials available internationaly and others still on development were reserarched. Theses materials were selected based on sustainability indexes and classified according to its source. Thus, a database of non-convencional thermal insulating materials that allows the comparison of these products based on the studied indicators was elaborated. It still can be concluded with this study that there is not a material that is better then all others in all categories. For each application, there is a variety of solutions that allow the same performance: the best insulation material for each necessity is the one capable of optimize its characteristics according to the required performance. The elaborated database is a tool to assist the selection of the most adequate material for each necessity.pt_BR
