Resumo: dc.description.abstractThe literature researched shows that the Public Education Institution should train good professionals, aiming at satisfying the interests of society. From this premise, we sought to answer the following question: What is the contribution of the teaching of Public Accounting for the formation of Public Accountants in the South West of Paraná? The overall objective was then to identify if the teaching of the discipline of Public Accounting meets the current demands of the labor market of Public Accounting. In order to meet the overall objective, specific objectives were adopted: to contextualize the problematics of Public Accounting, and the new challenges of its operations in the City Councils; to identify the profile and perception of Public Accountants of the legislative bodies of some cities in Southwestern Paraná regarding the teaching of the discipline of Public Accounting when compared to the needs of the labor market; to analyze the results, making comparison with the current syllabus of the discipline of Public Accounting at the Federal Technological University of Paraná - Campus Pato Branco, and; to propose reasonable suggestions for the best relationship between the teaching of the discipline of Public Accounting and the needs of the labor market. Data collection was conducted through a questionnaire for local public accountants in the City Councils of Southwestern Paraná. The research, as to procedures, is classified as a collection of data, and as to purposes, descriptive. The research problem was approached in a qualitative way. It was observed that the syllabus of the discipline of Public Accounting of the Federal Technological University of Paraná - Campus Pato Branco caters to a certain extent the market's needs with regard to the formation of Public Accountants. It was possible to ascertain the needs of the market and make the appropriate suggestions.pt_BR
