Resumo: dc.description.abstractThis study aimed to evaluate if the research contributes to the building up and gathering of knowledge to the students, acting on such a way to contribute for the development facing the needs of today´s society. Groups of high school students were incumbent to the development of a research where they verified the use of lichens as bio-indicators in the County where they lived. The researching teacher evaluated the building up of the knowledge through a questionnaire which was applied in the beginning and at the end of the research with the students involved and under the observation of the development of the teaching and learning process. The students argued, discussed, and presented the results to the community. As results, it was noticed an improvement of knowledge in all groups involved, which confirms that the research is an efficient methodological practice and that it also corroborates to supply the needs of today´s citizenship formation. The students also noticed throughout the development of the research, that the County studied presented a high percentage of lichens occupation in environments with high quantity of trees and lower traffic flow, relating this context with anthropic actions and air pollution. Thus, this research shows to be efficient and molds itself as a pedagogical practice that, besides being instigating to the students, develops a meaningful apprenticeship contributing for a citizenship formation as well.pt_BR
