Resumo: dc.description.abstractGiven that illiteracy in Brazil is of high magnitude, varying according to region. In this respect, the construction industry stands out as the sector that employs more hand labor disqualified in terms of studies. This fact engenders discrimination and devaluation of manual labor, even as important as the undeniable comfort of society. This study aimed to identify and analyze the illiteracy rate through a sample in the construction industry. We conducted the survey data on the education level of workers in the construction industry in the period from March to April in 2012. With the data collected it was found schooling of each worker, and many have only the initial series, considered by the Ministry of Education as functional illiterates. Within the context will be presented the various facets of illiteracy, education programs for youth and adults, as resources for the continuing education of the same. For the monograph worker participation was essential, without them, we could not obtain data and analyze the survey. The results showed the importance of completing the work with the construction industry in relation to socio-educational workers. It is noticed that the interest towards studies is high, although there are sector workers who for many years not attending school benches, some remain without interest in furthering their knowledge. With the completion of training courses for professionals studied here will have more benefits and recovery if these individuals will carry them. Covers up yet in this work results as well as some government programs on education, a way to eliminate the illiterate, full, basic and rudimentary, raising the level of education, and inserting them into literate society.pt_BR
