Resumo: dc.description.abstractStarch can be found easily in nature because it is the second most abundant polysaccharide. Polyvinyl alcohol is a biodegradable polymer was effective in improving the physical properties of the polymer blends The use of starch blends in turn, has been studied and developed with the intention of commercial application because the search for biodegradable products and low cost grows every day. This study aimed to the preparation of blends of cassava starch / PVA (starch / PVA) in proportions of 60/40 m / m at three different concentrations of starch (2%, 3% and 4%), in relation to water, prepared by casting method with and without the incorporation of N-(4-hydroxyphenyl) ethanamide. The purpose of this paper is to examine the barrier properties of the blend water absorption to 100% RH with subsequent determination of the diffusion coefficient (D), determination of the transmission of water vapor (TVA) and rate of water vapor permeability (WVTR) at 100% RH and a study of the release profile of the drug N-(4-hydroxyphenyl) ethanamide in the polymer matrix. The TVA and WVTR obtained for samples without the incorporated drug were higher when compared with the blends with the incorporated drug. Absorption tests enabled the quantification of the absorbed water and the diffusion coefficient for the samples, which can be noted that the permeability is related to the blends described in this work. The test quantification of released drug showed that the blends produced are not suitable for the purpose of release control.pt_BR
