Resumo: dc.description.abstractAmong the major sources of pollution, is the allocation or inadequate treatment of the huge amount of waste, either solid or liquid generated in cities. Industrialization has also contributed to the generation of industrial wastes of various kinds and levels of pollution potential. This means that there is greater concern for the treatment and disposal of these wastes. The adsorption process is an unit operation that has been studied in the application of wastewater treatment. New studies in the search for a l-ternative adsorbent have been performed. These nat ural adsorbents besides having low cost have high adsorption capacity and abundance. The aim of this study was to investigate the feasibility of using the potato peel ( Solanum tuberosum L.) as alterna-tive adsorbent using adsorption experiments with methyle ne blue. The adsorption experiments were carried out in batch and column. The adsorption kinetics was eval-uated using the models of pseudo first order and pseudo-second order. The adsorp-tion isotherm models of Langmuir and Freundlich were applied to the ex perimental data. In the kinetics of adsorption equilibrium of the system was reached in 1 hour and the model fit to the kinetic data was the pseudo-second order. In the method of batch adsorption, the Langmuir model was the best fit to the data of the isotherms, with a maximum amount adsorbed (qmax) of 48,7 mg g-¹. In the study of adsorption in fixed bed column the maximum adsorption capacity of the column was 35.83 mg g-¹. It is the ability of the dye desorption using HCl solution. The reusability of the a dsor-bent packed column was also observed.pt_BR
