Resumo: dc.description.abstractThe Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) is a network protocol that has emerged to meet the need of the IPv4 protocol that is in use since 1980. There are numerous changes over the IPv6 Protocol version 4 (IPv4), where the most significant of these was the increase of size of network address bits from 32 to 128. This provides a larger number of addresses sufficient to meet global demand for a single IP address. The current demand for using the Internet, web pages, email services, peer-to-peer, and the use of mobile devices has grown far beyond the expectations of the authors. Large-scale applications and development of new technologies and mobile networks have surpassed the ability of IPv4 to provide adequate services and exclusive addresses in the network. The large IPv6 address came to addressing the limitations and provides additional functionality. The project started the IETF Internet Protocol Next Generation (IPng) in 1993 to investigate various proposals and make recommendations for future action. In parallel with the development of the new protocol was developed a set of mechanisms called SIT (Simple Internet Transition) which is specified management rules and protocols to simplify migration. One of the main features of the SIT was that the transition should be done in a progressive manner avoiding the exchange and minimal upgrade of equipment already on the network. The tunneling enables the transmission of IPv6 packets through IPv4 existing infrastructure without the need for any change in routing mechanisms, encapsulating the contents of the IPv6 packet in an IPv4 packet.pt_BR
