Resumo: dc.description.abstractConcrete is the most usual material in constructions and considering its average lifespan of 50 years, eventually the structures will need to be strengthened or repaired. Another case in which it is necessary to apply a structural reinforcement is when the use of the construction is changed from the original. Besides the conventional methods, widely used, for structural reinforcement such as metal plates and increased section of reinforced concrete structures, constantly new materials are developed such as carbon fiber. However due to lack of knowledge of professionals in this area and lack of studies of the effectiveness of these reinforcements, their use is still limited. This study aimed to analyze the structural strength of the carbon fiber, specifically in short columns, by testing models focused on the application of axial load until rupture. Were tested columns without reinforcement, with one and two carbon fiber layers. At the end it was observed that the application of reinforcement increased compressive strength.pt_BR
