Resumo: dc.description.abstractThe textile and apparel in Brazil, achieved sales of $ 67 billion in 2011 and is the 5th largest textile producer in the world. These industries generate at the end of their processes, wastewater with high organic content, color and toxic substances. In the color removal stage of the generated effluent, chemical and physical processes such as microfiltration and adsorption are used, with activated carbon being the main material. This study aimed to evaluate the color removal of textile dye solution through the use of alternative materials in adsorption processes and advanced oxidation process (AOP), called Fenton Process. We sought to determine the contributions of these materials on color removal from solution by laboratory experiments using equipment "Jartest". The adsorption experiments aimed to speculate the influence of the particle size and the amount of mass needed for a satisfactory color removal, lasting 4 to 5 hours, with samples taken every 1 hour. The combination of powder particle sizes were 1.2 mm, 1.21 mm and 2.4 m of 2.41 to 4.8 mm and the masses were 200g, 250g and 300g added to 1 L of aqueous solution of dye based on direct color navy blue, concentration 5g / L, in a total of nine experiments. In the Fenton reaction mass used was iron residue 200, 250, and 300 grams to 1 L of aqueous solution of dye based color direct navy blue, at the concentration 5 g / L. The completion of the reaction was made by adding 10 ml of hydrogen peroxide 40 volumes, made three simultaneous experiments lasting two hours and removed samples every 1 hour. In initial tests with gypsum, despite the potential adsorbent evidenced, was observed an unfeasible of use due to its rehydration, which would hinder the separation of the effluent from the adsorbent at the end of adsorption. In the tests with the ceramic mass 250g was obtained an average efficiency of 97.3% on color removal. In the Fenton reaction with mass 250g sawmill residue, obtained average efficiency of 99.99%. In conclusion, satisfactory results were reached in both cases, opening precedent for the use of ceramic and iron residue on color removal.pt_BR
