Resumo: dc.description.abstractEndocrine disruptors have caused problems to the environment when they are released; therefore they have called the attention of the scientific community, especially female sex hormones (HSFs). Considering the fact they are present in rivers of the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba, this study aimed to evaluate the degree of removal of HSFs using two different sewage treatment systems, the aerobic and the anaerobic one. The main purpose of this study was to compare treatment systems and demonstrate which of them has greater removal efficiency. The techniques used to quantify HSFs influent (incoming liquid to the treatment station) and effluent (out coming liquid to the treatment station) were: solid phase extraction and detection of HSFs by high performance liquid chromatography performance. In the first sample, the concentration of influent treated with the aerobic system, was 1.98 g.L-1 for 17β-estradiol, 1,41 g.L-1 to 17α-ethinylestradiol and 1.64g.L-1 for estrone. In the system anaerobic influent the concentration was 3.54 g.L-1 to the 17β-estradiol, 2.82 g.L-1 to 17α-ethinylestradiol and estrone was not detected. In the first sample collection there was a removal of 100% for both systems. In the second sample collection, the values of the concentration of influent using the aerobic system were 0.919 g.L-1 to the 17β-estradiol, 1.45 g.L-1 to 17α-ethinylestradiol and 1.35 g.L-1 of estrone, there was a complete removal of 17β-estradiol and estrone and 79.45% of 17α-ethinylestradiol. In the anaerobic system input concentrations were 0.329 g.L-1 to the 17β-estradiol, 0.0624 g.L-1 to 17α-ethinylestradiol and 0.402 g.L-1 for estrone, showing removal of 13.37% for 17β-estradiol, there was an increase in the liquid phase of 17α-ethinylestradiol and removal of 47.51% of estrone, according to the obtained data, the aerobic system was more efficient in the removal of HSFs.pt_BR
