Resumo: dc.description.abstractAlong with the growth of urban occupation and the green areas reduction around the cities comes the need to develop new technologies to reduce the environmental impacts caused by buildings construction and maintenance. The use of green roofs can be an allied of mega regions fighting greenhouse effect, urban heat islands and helping to improve air and water quality. The green roofs have been round for a long time in history, but in the 70´s its sustainable side really begun to be explored in European countries like Germany. This technology nowadays is becoming more popular with competitive pricing and competition with traditional roof systems. In Brazil it is necessary to stimulate the use of this technology, to become more usual. Considering this scenario, this study presents an extended green roof constructive technique with low environmental impact through the use of renewable materials, replacing the concrete slab. This study compares this green roof technique to others roof systems traditionally applied in Brazil analyzing the economic viability of green roofs in Brazil. To compare the systems, seven roof constructive systems were detailed: three systems corresponding to the usual roof systems, and four different green roof systems. For a correct comparison of cost and weight of the roofing systems, the costs composition of each roof system was elaborated, obtaining equivalent cost per square meter of each of the systems. After this analysis it can be stated that it is possible to have a green roof system with lower cost and weight to traditional roofs. The green roof with wood structure, plywood and green roof shaped molded in loco presented the lowest cost among all the systems analyzed, obtaining a cost 37% lower than the slab of concrete system covered with ceramic tile, and a final weight three times smaller. It was concluded that the application of green roofs, besides all the environmental benefits and building comfort, has a lower cost and weight compared to the most used roof systems in Brazilian buildings. The reduction of cost may be even lower if considered the analysis of the life cycle and useful life of the roof.pt_BR
