Resumo: dc.description.abstractThe street running is a sport of the masses that has great expansion since the 80's. There are millions of racers worldwide and over 4 million in Brazil. Controversy exists regarding the need for hydration for these amateur athletes in tests of 10 km. The present study aimed to evaluate the hydration status of 10 km street racers race after 10 km simulated race, with and without access to water. To this end this research is characterized as a study case, pre-experimental. Participants were 12 street runners evaluated in two conditions: with and without access to liquid in a 10 Km test. Inclusion criteria were: male, aged between 30 and 50 years, who practiced of racing for over 2 years and have participate at least two events in the last 6 months. As for the heart rate results show that runners performed the tests in sub-maximal effort, but very close to your maximum heart rate. When comparing the absolute and relative values of body mass loss between the two experimental conditions showed a significant difference (p <0.001). Comparing the levels of hydration in runners with and without access to water observed a higher degree of dehydration in the second situation. It is concluded that the intake of water reduces the degree of loss of mass. It is suggested to evaluate other factors that may cause differences in the degree of dehydration as the type and amount of food as well as temperature.pt_BR
