Descrição: dc.descriptionWith the continuous improvement of the technology of the industrial internet platform, the digitalization and intelligent upgrading of the blast furnace (BF) ironmaking sector is imperative. Addressing challenges relating to data collection, transmission, sharing, storage, processing, analysis and application requires the establishment of a cohesive Industrial Internet platform for BF ironmaking production, incorporating the principles of Industry 4.0 and the industrial Internet of Things (IoT). The current status of industrial internet platforms is investigated and found that the integrations, especially the vertical integration in enterprises is still a bottleneck problem, which is derived from the fact that each layer of the enterprise typically operates using a mixture of layer- specific protocols that are designed by different companies at different time, and not necessarily designed for interoperability. Furthermore, the long-life cycles of automation systems typically ensure the presence of legacy devices and protocols that lack the means to adopt new measures for interoperability. This results in a hindrance to the adoption of enhancing technologies from the information technology (IT) domain that is increasingly dependent on the easy accessibility of devices and data. Consequently, it is the task of vertical integration to address system heterogeneity and facilitate the adoption of advanced business-enhancing solutions. So, this research aims to develop a reference architecture for the intelligent integration of BF ironmaking in a steel company. Through systematical literature review, the research firstly identifies the adequacy of the BF's automation control and communication systems based on mapping the current automation system in order to obtain greater vertical integration. Then, a case study was carried out for four weeks in a BF plant of a steel company in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The production data, raw material data and operation data of the BF plant were collected. The technical team of the BF plant was actively supportive of the data collection and deeply involved in the project to improve the productivity of the BFs. From the case study, the weak points of the BF plant in automation system were discovered, accordingly, solutions to uplift IoT devices and basic automation rate were presented, a new model for the vertical integration of BF automation system was proposed with a hybrid of approaches to increase interoperability of the automation control and communication system; and suggestion to cut down operational costs of BF ironmaking was explained to the company, which showed much interest on it, and already took some actions accordingly to improve its management. Future works are envisioned based on the results.-
