Descrição: dc.descriptionOne of the rules used by the automobilistic industris to reduce the vehicle weight, was the replacement of plain carbon steels for others with high strength and low alloy |1|. The high resistence allows a conception of lighter structures and the conformability, which is a basic requirement for the hard deformation that some parts of the vehicle are undergone, is just reached with a reduction in the allow carbon content. In order to compensate this reduction in the carbon content, in this steels class, some small quantities of vanadium, niobium and titanium can be added to contribute in strength, through a grains refinement and/or age hardening, besides of increasing the manganese content to improve hardenability. Another steels class, recently developed that satisfy completely the high strength and good ductility requirements, is basically composed by ferrite and martensite, and is known as Dual-Phase Steels |2-3|. These steels have presented superior high strength to plain carbon steels, and also a higher ductility when compared to conventionals high strength low alloy steels. These properties open a large utilization scope for these steels, what justifics completely the research effort that has been done to feature the several ways of behaviour in these steels service. The informations about dual-phase steels mechanical characteristics, are still not enough, because their recent tecnological development. It's known that the mechanical behaviour depends on quantity, characteristics, morphology of the present phases, and also the interaction phases way |5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10|. It's noticed, therefore, that the investigation way to the materials quality improving is done in the processing direction, once that materials service behaviour depends on countless factors, almost all close related to its microstructure. © Copyright 1993 Society of Automotive Engineers, Inc.-
