Resumo: dc.description.abstractFloating debris represents a significant threat to coastal ecosystems, especially in mangrove areas, where its presence compromises biodiversity and ecosystem services. The Orla Sem Lixo (OSL) Project seeks to mitigate these impacts through integrated coastal management, which involves the local community and academic knowledge in intercepting waste by installing floating barriers. Using video monitoring and on-site assessment tools to evaluate the experiment, the project implemented the barriers in mangrove areas to retain floating waste, promoting coastal sustainability and giving new meaning to the ecosystem. The Action Research methodology adopted encourages the active participation of local community, valuing traditional and scientific knowledge, which results in more effective solutions adapted to local needs. This paper presents the actions and results of the first stage of the project, highlighting the importance of community collaboration in managing floating waste and preserving the ecosystem in a case study of the mangrove swamp of Enseada de Bom Jesus on Ilha do Fundão in Rio de Janeiro, RJ.-
