Resumo: dc.description.abstractThe present work aims to present a study on medicalization and its impact on childhood. Starting from the concept of medicalization, a historical review is made of its incidence in the Brazilian family from the 19th century onwards and how this process had as its main focus the creation of the child. Based on the author's experience in a children's CAPS in the city of São Paulo, we show that it is possible in the public service to offer children with developmental problems care that favors their psychic structure, as recommended by the Psychiatric Reform. The ideology that legitimizes modern barbarism, in its “scientific” and “biological” forms, favors the resurgence of medicalization, given that capitalism, in its most savage form – neoliberalism – aims to produce consumers and not the constitution of subjects of desire, creating conditions for the medicine industrial complex – pharmaceutical industry – hospital industry to operate with increasingly greater profits.pt_BR
