PARTICIPAÇÃO PATERNA NO CICLO GRAVÍDICO-PUERPERAL: ASPECTOS IMPORTANTES PARA A SAÚDE MATERNO-INFANTIL

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To identify, through a literature review, the relevant aspects of paternal participation in the pregnancy-puerperal period for maternal and child health. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Refers to an Integrative Literature Review, adopting the principles of descriptive studies of a qualitative nature, guided by the following research problem “What is the relevance of paternal participation during the pregnancy-puerperal cycle for maternal and child health?”. To search for manuscripts, the following descriptors were used: “Parents”, “Paternal Behavior”, “Pregnancy”, “Postpartum Period” and “Maternal and Child Health”, in the LILACS, BDENF, IBECS and SCIELO databases. resulting in 10 studies considered suitable. RESULTS: 775 articles were found, of which 10 were considered eligible for thorough and complete reading for analysis and interpretation of the findings. Among the studies considered appropriate for inclusion in the analysis, the majority were identified in the LILACS database, covering approximately 50%. CONCLUSION: The study highlights the importance of paternal presence, not only to provide financial support to the family, but also as support to the mother, as paternal involvement helps to reduce women' s feelings of insecurity, pain, anxiety and stress, which Consequently, it will also bring benefits to the baby’s health and development.
