Resumo: dc.description.abstractThis research presents the contributions of local knowledge and practices to the redesign of initial training for Chemistry teachers in the Amazon. 25 professors who graduated from two public higher education institutions from 1980 to 2010 and who currently teach Chemistry in basic education in different contexts were involved. In order to make inferences about this training, it was necessary to analyze the curricula of the educational institutions, to verify which disciplines enabled the dialogue between what is taught at the university/school and the local knowledge and practices. The work carried out by the professors demonstrated that this practice enables significant learning, reduces the distance between the culture of the educational institutions and the traditional local culture.pt_BR
