Resumo: dc.description.abstract | Aesthetic demand motivates patients to seek orthodontic appliances to make a perfect and functional smile. Despite the current dental materials development, demineralization around accessories still a reality and is considered a problem for patients under treatment especially with fixed appliances. When occurs the demineralization process, opaque white male lesions around the orthodontic may be observed. Cariostatic bacterial are responsible for production of organic acids that will induce this demineralization of dental enamel6,7. Some methods already established in the literature are commonly used to prevent this problem8, however, they are patients depend9. The search for methods that may reduce the incidence of white spot lesions, which may prevent the development of periodontal diseases and improve oral health throughout the treatments remains constant. The new antimicrobial class of materials included formulations with some nanoparticles in different concentrations and in different types of antimicrobial agents; polymeric formulations that present modifications in the organic and inorganic matrix composition and the association of consecrated literature materials. The objective of this work is present a critical review regarding the new technologies and new trends that are developed in the scientific scope to present its characteristics and its applicability in dental practice. | pt_BR |
