Resumo: dc.description.abstractThis paper aims to discuss the use of a rhetorical resource, the exempla (“examples”), in Satire 6 by the Roman poet Décimo Júnio Juvenal, about married women (uxores). Based on the division of the poem into sections made by G. Highet, it is argued that the exempla are distributed with the aim of criticizing Roman marriage in four aspects: religious, emotional, sexual and moral. Notwithstanding Juvenal's exaggerated attack on married women, it is argued that Satire 6 ends up reaffirming the ideal of the wife/mother of a family in Rome at the time of the poet.pt_BR
