Resumo: dc.description.abstractGastrointestinal Stromal Tumors (GISTs), despite representing less than 1% of neoplastic lesions of the Gastrointestinal Tract (GIT), are the most common mesenchymal tumors among sarcomas, with an incidence between 1 to 2/100,000 people per year. It can be present throughout the GI tract, although it is more common in the stomach. Immunohistochemical analysis is necessary for diagnosis and its behavior is uncertain, with a high rate of recurrence. Its treatment ranges from monitoring potentially benign lesions to surgery, in cases with some malignant potential.pt_BR
