Resumo: dc.description.abstractThis e-book introduces a transformative perspective on human aging, moving beyond the traditional focus on lifespan extension. In a world where life expectancy continues to rise, it raises a critical question: Is living longer enough, or should we focus on living better? At the core of the book is the concept of Functional Longevity, defined as the sustained ability to maintain physical, cognitive, emotional, and social functioning throughout the aging process. This approach emphasizes independence, autonomy, and quality of life as central outcomes of healthy aging. Rather than relying solely on conventional health indicators such as mortality rates and disease prevalence, the book argues that true success in aging should be measured by an individual’s functional capacity—the ability to perform daily activities, maintain relationships, engage with society, and live with purpose and dignity. Drawing on multidisciplinary scientific evidence, the work highlights the key factors that influence functional capacity over time, including physical activity, nutrition, sleep quality, cognitive stimulation, emotional resilience, and social engagement. It also reinforces an empowering message: functional decline is not inevitable and can often be prevented or mitigated through early intervention and integrated care. Beyond individual well-being, the book explores the broader implications for healthcare systems and public policy. Promoting Functional Longevity is presented as a strategic approach to reducing healthcare costs, delaying dependency, and improving population health outcomes in aging societies. As a practical contribution, the e-book introduces the FLICF™ (Functional Longevity Integrated Care Framework), a model designed to translate theory into real-world healthcare practice through coordinated and person-centered strategies. Ultimately, this work delivers a powerful and forward-looking message: 👉 the future of healthy aging should not be defined solely by how long people live, but by how well they function, remain independent, and sustain meaning and quality of life throughout those years.pt_BR
