Resumo: dc.description.abstractShiftworkcancausecircadiancyclesdisturbances andmisaligns theendogenous rhythms. Thephysiological variables aredrivenby the circadian systemand, its misalignment, canimpair themetabolicfunctions. Thus, themainobjectiveof this studywastoevaluatethemetabolicalterationsasaresultofshiftworkandnightwork reported inarticlespublished inthe last5years, usingtheeligibilitycriteriaboth genderandindexedarticles inEnglish language. Inorder toexecutethiswork,we performa systematic reviewaccording toPRISMAguidelines andsearchedabout ChronobiologyDisordersandNightWork, bothrelatedtometabolism, inMedline, Lilacs,ScienceDirectandCochrane.Cross-sectional,cohortandexperimentalstudies withlowriskofbiaswereincluded.Wefoundatotalof132articles,and,after the selectionprocess,16articlesremainedtobeanalyzed.Itwasobservedthatshiftwork cancausecircadianmisalignment and, consequently, somemetabolicparameters alterationssuchasanimpairedglycemiccontrolandinsulinfunctioning, cortisolphase release, cholesterol fractions imbalance, changes inmorphological indexes and melatonin secretion. There are some limitations, such as heterogenicity inused databasesandthe5yearsrestrictionperiod,becausetheeffectsofsleepdisturbance mayhavebeenreportedearlier. Inconclusion, wesuggestthatshiftworkinterferes with the sleep-wake cycle andeatingpatterns, which cause crucial physiological alterationsthat,together,canleadtometabolicsyndrome.pt_BR
