Descrição: dc.descriptionThis series of images were taken simultaneously by the GOES-East satellite on January 26, 2011. They show the storm that is approaching the Northeast U.S. in three different channels: visible, infrared, and infrared water vapor. Whereas visible imagery is only available during daylight hours, it provides highly detailed images of cloud features. Infrared imagery senses cloud temperatures, which are a good indication of storm intensity. In this image, cold, intense cloud areas are colored in shades of orange. The image to the far right uses the infrared water vapor channel, which indicates areas of moisture in the atmosphere. Areas of high water vapor content are colored in shades of blue. Clear areas are dry, high pressure features, usually associated with the jet stream-
